As 2017 comes to a close, ahead of the festive season’s celebrations, here’s a round-up of recent developments at Epitomy Solutions…
A changing & growing office…
This year has once again been hectic, challenging and rewarding. As well as the latest hardware being installed at our Sheffield city-centre base, several new team members have taken their places in the Epitomy office. It’s always good to see fresh faces, bringing different ideas and keeping us all on our toes.
First, John arrived as Senior Software Developer. He has been involved with a range of Epitomy’s data management projects, from Electronic Parts Catalogues to Quotation systems for our clients. John also teaches part-time at Sheffield University, so his knowledge and ability to convey the latest developments in IT is a huge asset to everyone.
Mark also teamed up with Epitomy as one of our contractors. Such arrangements often suit fluid, developing careers in IT, and for us it brings the latest skills for specific development work. He has been a welcome addition to the team.
Elsewhere, Josh arrived as part of a Sheffield Hallam University partnership that will see him complete a qualification in Digital & Technology Solutions. The degree-level apprenticeship has been coordinated with help from Skills Made Easy (a Sheffield City Council initiative). Watch out for a news release that will showcase what such work-learning arrangements are now offering an increasing number of organisations in the Sheffield region.
A new-look website
All companies need to keep their website looking fresh, with relevant news, ever-dazzling graphics and engaging content to keep site visitors well informed. Epitomy is no different. With so many absorbing client projects ongoing it’s easy to let the office housekeeping slip, though, so in November we decided to have a Spring clean – in the middle of Winter!
Over the next few months the core website pages will be updated in line with our ‘webshowroom’ look and feel already in place on our manufacturers and dealers solution pages. Ahead of that, we have already released this new-look blog section that will carry articles about the services offered by Epitomy, and how news from the wider IT industry affects us and the applications we work on. Take a look at the latest blogs here on the site.
The robots are coming…
The rise of the robot has been predicted for many years. Each month news stories reveal the latest advances in artificial intelligence, and how manual jobs might be affected in the future. At Epitomy, we believe there’s plenty to be gained from AI using machine learning to assist existing technologies.
Take the recent work being done by Josh. He’s been exploring how Optical Character Recognition (OCR) can be improved using open source Google technology. To complement what we already offer clients who need to scan documents and diagrams, Josh has worked on ways to integrate Google’s TensorFlow™. The goal is to produce better quality scans that can link older printed information with clients’ digital offering. Read more here on the blog.
And finally, many thanks to all our customers who have provided some exciting project work over the last twelve months. New clients have approached us for help with data management services and ecommerce development, and others have returned looking to take their systems to the next level with help from our developers.
So, Merry Christmas from everyone at Epitomy Solutions. We look forward to everything that the New Year and 2018 will bring…
